Village Life - Come on down!

Crowds are enjoying perfect weather at the Volvo Ocean Race Village at Viaduct today, Saturday while super cyclone Pam batters and thrashes her way south.

The party’s nearly over. Saturday is the last day to take in the scene and enjoy the attractions of the pop-up village, which is destined to next arise in Newport, Rhode Island in the USA.

The windy party crasher is predicted to skim through Auckland’s offshore waters on Monday with her first effects felt on Sunday but today is all go!

Looking for souvenirs? Look no further than the wide clothing variety at the official Musto tent right outside the bridge to Te Wero island. Everything from team t-shirts to branded casual wear and made-for-the-sea foul weather gear.

Thinking of that next car, repowering the boat or adding a 50-ton digger to your business? The Volvo Pavilion offers fascinating insights into technological advances. Don’t miss the mouth-watering Volvo XC-90 concept sports sedan. The Pavilion closes tonight at 8:00 pm.

There’s free sailing for all comers at Volvo Sailing … Have a Go! experience that is available to all comers daily here in Auckland on the inner Viaduct Basin thanks to Yachting New Zealand and its volunteers. No need to get your feet wet. Just sign up for a taste of life under sail on the inner Viaduct Harbour.

While it’s all fun and games the six Volvo Ocean Race race boats will battle it out on the Waitemata Harbour in the vital points-scoring New Zealand Herald In-Port Race.

Racing starts at 2:00 pm and will last about an hour. Visitors can take in the spectacle of the boats docking out and returning, banners flying. They can watch the racing from harbour vantage points near the Race Village or get up close on the village’s big TV screens.
