It's One Year to Go!

On 27 February 2015, the Auckland Stopover Race Village will open its doors to the world and the crowds will eagerly await the arrival of the leaders of the fleet as they race into Auckland at the end of Leg Four of the 2014/15 Volvo Ocean Race.

The City of Sails is set to put on a spectacular welcome. At the last Auckland Stopover back in March 2012, hundreds of craft followed the fleet in on the water and thousands of spectators packed the shore viewing points and the Race Village to cheer in the crews after the thrilling Leg from Sanya, China.

Next year’s Auckland Stopover will run from 27 February to 15 March and organisers are again planning a non-stop programme of entertainment in the Race Village which will run twelve hours per day throughout the Stopover. In 2012, more than 250,000 visitors enjoyed the Global Party on Te Wero island and 2015 is set to be even bigger and better.

“No other city does it like Auckland,” says Auckland Stopover General Manager Grant Calder. “Kiwis embrace the Volvo Ocean Race in a unique way. No matter where they're from, the sailors feel like they’re coming home when they sail into the Waitemata Harbour.”

Plans for the 2015 Auckland Stopover will be announced over the coming months. Watch this space!
