Volvo fleet reunited!

The full Volvo Ocean Race fleet is back together for the first time in over a month, four days out from the start of Leg 2 from Cape Town to Abu Dhabi.

Following its dismasting and unplanned sojourn on the island of Tristan da Cunha, PUMA Ocean Racing has now arrived in Cape Town for repairs and refit  with just days to spare before ocean racing resumes in conditions that will once again test the teams to the limit.

The boat was lifted down from TEAM BREMEN, the container ship sent to pick them up, and the team motored her round to the shore base at around 1am for a raucous welcome from friends and well-wishers, whooping and cheering and wearing 'The Show Mast Go On' T-shirts, and more tender moments with family.

The hard work for the shore crew starts now with less than four days to get the boat, which lost her rig on November 21, back in racing condition in order to take part in the In-Port Race in Cape Town this weekend.

The six boats will then line up for the start of Leg 2 to Abu Dhabi on Monday morning (NZ time).

Emirates Team New Zealand entry CAMPER is second overall, just two points behind Telefonica.

Weather forecasts suggest the teams will be heading straight back into possible boat-breaking conditions in Leg 2, facing the prospect of beating upwind in up to 30-35 knots for the first 24 hours.
