The Volvo Ocean Race is the ultimate test of a team in professional sport and a human drama of real depth and emotional power. For over 40 years, many of the world’s best sailors have been obsessed by winning it. A vast digital audience demands more live coverage and faster access to the real story from the oceans. Companies increasingly use it not only to amplify their brands but to inspire employees and transform the way they do business. And our unique perspective – the planet truly is our racetrack – coupled with the global reach of our platforms means we can make a real and lasting difference. The race produces so many compelling stories that it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of material and lose sight of what we’re trying to achieve.

 

It’s worth remembering that we have three overall goals in communication:

• Help create a flourishing race that is an effective platform for our stakeholders

• Showcase an exciting, digital-first sporting property for fans

• Leave a legacy of sustainability

 

The best way of doing that is to hold on to the race’s most important attribute – its authenticity. Our guiding philosophy is to tell the raw story of the Volvo Ocean Race.

 

Access to the media centre is granted to accredited stakeholder media and communications staff alongside local, regional and national media.

 

Media can also book media guest sailing opportunities through the media centre. Accreditation is required for all media to give access to the media center, press conferences, media zones etc. Accreditation is obtained by submitting an application with personal details which will then be processed by the race accreditation team. The accreditation pass will then be available for collection from the accreditation office in each stopover.
